4watoto is extremely committed to ensuring that the children in the 4WatotoHouse are raised by Congolese according to African culture and receive education in a Pan-African way.
The team of DR Congo consists of 11 full-time members and 7 part-time teachers. Together with the board of 4Watoto DR Congo, they make sure the children are raised in the best way possible.
DIRECTRICE
As directrice and president of the board, Aline Rehema is the face of the 4Watoto foundation. She is first and foremost a mother to the children, full of love and flexibility she helps these children to know that she and the family are there for them. She is also responsible for organising team discussions, meetings and evaluations.
PEDAGOGY TEAM
In addition to the 25 children, two supervisors always sleep in the house: one with the boys, one with the girls. These supervisors, named mama Chancelin, and Albert actually have a 'big brother/sister' function. Where Albert also has a management role in the house: purchasing groceries and life supplies. Papa Ndaye gives life lessons in which subjects such as religion, sexual education, hygiene but also the state of affairs within the house are discussed. It is a kind of social studies but with a more pedagogical approach. He is also responsible as Head Field Researcher to better map the situation of children in Goma and the surrounding area.
EDUCATION
At the moment there are 7 teachers working part-time at The 4WatotoHouse. 3 teachers (Fortuna, Moise and Ganny) take care of the general subjects (including French, Swahili, Mathematics, Biology). In addition, we have a part-time English teacher; hope. She is also doing 4Watoto's media within DR Congo.
We give a lot of practical lessons because 4Watoto believes that children who learn in an active way become more eager to learn and happy. These classes are currently dance and sports, given by Ramazani Moise. In the future we hope to add more practical subjects to our curriculum.
"4Watoto wants to give every child the opportunity to develop his/her own unique talent."
SURVEILLANCE
A security guard from the Congo Solutions company is always present in the evening. In the morning at 8.00 this is alternated and the day shift starts. Guards Moise Anguzu and Omari keep The 4WatotoHouse and its residents safe.
HEALTH AND HYGIENE
There are 2 cooks in our house called Mama Grâce and mama Christelle, who ensure that the children eat three healthy meals a day. We have a contract with Doctor Olivier, he is employed by the General Hospital in Goma but comes to 4Watoto when called (emergencies) and carries out a medical check-up every week. Finally, there is mama Raissa, who washes all clothes and ensures that the house stays clean.
Tuko pamoja! (we are together)
