What do we want to achieve?

4Watoto wants to build an ecological village in which several 4WatotoHouses (read: family homes for orphans) are facilitated within a normal residential area where employees and other villagers also live with their families.

In addition, an internationally accepted primary and secondary school, a vocational training center and a sports complex will be built in this village.

Businesses such as a bakery, market and restaurant will be facilitated to become financially independent of donations from the Netherlands. Self-sufficiency is the goal and therefore agriculture will also play a prominent role within the village.

In addition, leisure activities such as a playground, an open-air theatre and a petting zoo so that overall a village becomes where children with fewer opportunities can dream big and also pursue them because they live in a safe and loving community. With this, 4Watoto strives to start a snowball effect and thus create a positive change and a big impact in the lives of many hundreds of people.

How far have we come now?

  • Designing the VillageOfDreams project includes researching the needs/costs of the village, brainstorming about the architecture and how we can incorporate our values into the village.

  • Destination research, in short; where will the village be located?

  • In preparation for VillageOfDreams we are currently working on the project Education4All. Within this project the core of our education system is being established. By this we mean the structure, philosophy, education modules and practical matters such as the design of the buildings.

  • Job opportunities research on Goma, DR Congo for relevant vocational training establishment.

How do we want to be sustainable?

  • Solar panels
  • Regenerative agriculture
  • Nature and man in balance
  • Let Flora & Fauna flourish
  • Building with SuperAdobe and natural local products.
  • Recycle, reuse principles (circular economy)
  • Community cleaning
  • Provide training on sustainability, environmental protection, human impact.
  • Balanced Ital dieet
